The community of Old Naledi, known by their famous name ‘Zola” is found in the Southern district of Botswana. Despite the challenges with covid 19 pandemic, nothing stops Botswana Family Welfare Association (BOFWA) to reach out to the communities to provide health services.
It’s a real event when the mobile clinic from BOFWA rolled into town accompanying the month of youth against aids (MYAA). The BOFWA team that comprised of the doctor, nurse midwife and the HIV and testing team opened their doors to the community of Zola on the 13th March 2021.
The mobile clinic is important for accessibility, so that the adolescents and young people living in marginalised areas can access sexual and reproductive health services, and reliable information.
The mobile clinic operated in remote areas by BOFWA serve some of the most vulnerable women and adolescents boys and girls in the country.
The mobile clinic provides free sexual reproductive health and rights services like contraception, STI screening and treatment, condom distribution and demonstration, comprehensive sexuality education and HIV and testing services , and adolescents and young people also ask for advice on all aspects of their health and wellbeing.
The outreach was a success as the people of Old Naledi came in numbers to access the provided services. Majority of the male were seen accessing both HIV testing and STI screening as compared to female. 5000 male condoms of various flavours were distributed to the people of the community. Other services accessed were implant insertion and pills.
